The bible identified this leadership role with several terms: bishop, elder, overseer, and shepherd. These men server the congregation in this way.


Dene Haugland
Areas of Service: Spiritual Growth
Dene was born in Houston, Texas but has lived in Durham since 1968. He is now retired from Motorola. Dene is married to Polly and they have two children and three grandchildren all living in Wilmington.

Charles Holton
Areas of Service: Community Outreach
Charles is an attorney practicing in the Triangle. He and his family have resided in Durham since 1970. He is married to Anita and they have raised three boys who are no longer living at home.

Bob Jones
Areas of Service: Administration
Born in Kansas and educated in Arkansas and Maryland, Bob Jones and his wife Cathy have lived in Durham since 1965. Bob works at Duke Medical Center and enjoys water gardening, scuba diving, skiiing and especially time with his children and grandchildren.

Carl Lafferty
Areas of Service: Childrens Programs
Carl and his wife Cookie were born in the southern West Virginia coal fields but spent most of their lives in Virginia. They have lived in Durham since 1993 and have three children and 7 grandchildren. Carl works for Ericsson as an engineer.

Wayne Massey
Areas of Service: Teen / Campus
Wayne was born in Glendale, California. He and Janice have been in Durham since 1979. Janice and Wayne, both neurologists at Duke University Medical Center, were married in 1967. They have three children: Patrick, Austen, and Elizabeth.

Paul Watson
Areas of Service: Worship / Education
A graduate of Abilene Christian College (B.A.) and Yale University (M.Div., Ph.D.), Paul came to Cole Mill Road from Austin, Texas in 1983. He has served as pulpit minister since then and as elder since 1987. With his wife Kay they have seven children and seven grandchildren.
