Worship Service
The worship ministry brings together the various elements of the worship service to create a unified and uplifting experience for the congregation. The following roles are key elements of the worship service:
  1. Prayer - During services each Sunday an assigned volunteer member prays aloud for the entire congregation
  2. Scripture Reading - Every Sunday during services we have assigned scripture readings by a member or by members of the congregation.
  3. Communion Meditation - On Sunday morning, a member of the congregation speaks about the significance of the Lord’s Supper and offers prayers of thanks for Jesus Christ and for his supper.
  4. Communion Serving - Servers are stationed behind the Lord’s table and they ensure that everyone is served.
  5. Song Leading - Hymns sung during our assemblies are led by a member of the congregation.

This ministry takes care of pre-worship coordination of those who serve in worship. Pertinent information regarding the worship service is communicated to those who serve, and vacant worship service spots are filled.

Worship Planning Group
Members meet on Wednesday evenings and review the way we conduct our worship services, and discuss how our worship might be the best it can be. One primary task of the group is to plan our Sunday evening services.

Forest at Duke Worship
This ministry serves those residents of the Forest at Duke nursing home / retirement center who are interested in church services but are unable to travel to attend. We hold brief, simple and inspirational worship services for the residents on the first Sunday of each month. The residents of Forest at Duke are so expressive of their pleasure when visitors make time for them. Members can help in this ministry by:
  1. Attending monthly services (even if only occasionally. It helps to amplify the singing and provides more people to greet the residents);
  2. Leading services in song or brief devotional message (5 - 7 minutes) or in prayer;
  3. Visiting with residents at other times during the month, and
  4. Organizing special programs (chorus, children’s program, etc.).
Ministry Leader: Kay Watson

Ushering
Ushers play an important part in our worship service, since their actions may prepare the tone and proper atmosphere conducive to a rewarding worship experience for members and visitors to our congregation. For our congregation here at Cole Mill Road, the key elements of usher service are:
  1. check to see if communion has been prepared;
  2. put all communion trays in place, between class and worship;
  3. close auditorium doors at appropriate times;
  4. greet and help visitors find a seat;
  5. serve communion to nursery;
  6. store all trays in communion preparation room;
  7. answer telephone in foyer;
  8. be able to direct visitors to rest rooms and classes, and know where first aid kits are located; and
  9. special services as needed (distribute information; help with contribution count; help with special needs of members).

Worship Assignments
This ministry involves those who have indicated that they would like to serve in our worship services. A schedule is prepared, and Lucy Parrott notifies those who assist in our worship services.
Ministry Leader: Dan McKay

Communion Preparation
The Lord’s Supper is prepared each Sunday, and supplies are kept on hand. Members take turns preparing the Supper, also ensuring that the trays are clean for use.

Attendance Cards
This ministry makes sure card racks are full and pencils are available and sharpened.
Ministry Leader: Jack & Donna Hastings

Attendance Count
Reporting is necessary in order for the elders and deacons to project growth, and plan for classes of all age groups. Attendance is counted in classrooms, auditorium, Latino worship, and children’s worship.
